How much does your support cost and how do you charge?
Cost depends on the type of support and its scale, and it is always agreed up front. Recruitment is delivered on a fixed fee basis, priced by the service level you choose, with no hidden fees and no commission. HR support can be a fixed price project, a monthly or quarterly retainer, an agreed bank of hours to draw down as needed, or pay as you go for ad hoc advice. Development programmes and workshops are quoted per programme. Every proposal is written for the organisation it is for, so the best starting point is a short conversation about what you need. Contact us for current pricing.
Is the first conversation free, and what happens in it?
Yes. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation. It is usually a short Teams or telephone call where we ask questions about your organisation, the challenge you are facing and what a good outcome would look like. You will get an honest view of whether we can help and where we think the real issue lies, even if that is not what you expected to hear. If it makes sense to go further, we follow up with a written proposal. There is never a hard sales pitch.
Do you work on a retainer, on projects, or on ad hoc hours?
All three. Some clients use a retained service with an agreed number of hours each month or quarter, which gives them priority access and a predictable cost. Others buy a bank of hours to draw down as needed, with anything unused not charged for. Many engagements are single projects with a fixed scope and price, such as a recruitment campaign, a policy review or a development programme. We are happy to start small and change the arrangement as your needs change.
How quickly can you start?
It depends on the type of support. Advice on an immediate or critical employee relations issue can often begin the same or next working day. Recruitment campaigns, assessment centres and development programmes require more up front design time, but we typically start within a few days of the brief being agreed. We will always give you an honest view of timescales at the first conversation rather than promising something we cannot deliver.
Do you deliver workshops in person or online?
Both. We deliver face to face at your premises, our offices or an external venue, and online through Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and we regularly combine the two for organisations with people across several sites. Groups are kept small enough for genuine discussion and practical exercises. Where a larger population needs to be covered, we can run the same session several times or design a larger facilitated event, as we have done for groups of hundreds of people.
Who will deliver the work?
Campbell Urquhart, our Managing Director, leads client relationships and takes an active part in hands on delivery. We are supported by a network of experienced associates who bring additional depth across HR, assessment, development and career transition. You will always know in advance who will be delivering your work.
What qualifications and accreditations do you hold?
Campbell Urquhart is a Member of the British Psychological Society and holds BPS and EFPA Level 1 and Level 2 Occupational Test User qualifications. He is Belbin Team Roles accredited and the Licensed Belbin Distributor for Scotland, a DiSC Certified Trainer and a Discflow Certified Trainer, and holds the CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice, alongside more than thirty years of experience in recruitment, assessment and people development. Qualifications of any associate consultants can be made available on request. We maintain our professional development and sector knowledge through ongoing practice, training and industry engagement.
How do you handle personal data from psychometric assessments and 360-degree feedback?
Carefully, and in line with UK GDPR. Assessment and feedback data is collected for a specific, agreed purpose and used only for that purpose. Individuals are told before an assessment how their results will be used and who will see them, and they receive feedback on their own results. In a 360-degree process, individual responses remain confidential and are reported as themes rather than attributed comments unless the process has been designed differently and everyone involved has been told. Reports are shared only with the people agreed in advance, and data is retained only for as long as it is needed. Our privacy policy sets out how we handle personal data.
Is what we discuss confidential?
Yes. Conversations about your organisation, its people and its challenges are treated as confidential, including an initial discussion before any work is agreed. Our case studies are published without naming clients for the same reason. Where we work on sensitive matters such as investigations, restructures or individual performance concerns, we agree in advance who within your organisation will see what.
Do you work outside Scotland?
Yes. We are based in Aberdeen and work throughout Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, and across the rest of the United Kingdom. We have also delivered projects internationally in seventeen countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. Online delivery means distance is rarely an obstacle for advisory work, coaching and many workshops.
Can you work alongside our existing HR team?
Yes, and a good deal of our work is done exactly that way. Some clients have no internal HR function and use us as their HR resource. Many others have a capable HR team and bring us in for the things that team does not have the capacity, the specialist expertise or the independence to handle: an assessment centre, a leadership programme, a psychometric or 360-degree process, a complex investigation, or a restructure where an external perspective is genuinely useful. We work within your policies and your way of doing things, keep the HR lead informed throughout, and are clear from the start about which decisions stay with you. The aim is to add capacity and specialist capability to an HR team, not to duplicate it or work around it.
